David attended our Mental Health First Aid training and L2 Emergency First Aid in the Workplace courses funded by Lancashire Adult Learning 2013 – 14.

As active member of Access Ability’s Burnley social job and volunteering in the community, he had an ambition to be able to increase his knowledge and understanding around mental health and first aid but mainly to increase his employability skills for potential employers.

David was successful at the first phase his application for a job working in supporting individuals with Mental Ill health for Salford Council. For this particular role it worked on a points system, the two training courses that David attended gave him 10 extra points and increased he’s chances of the position available. At interview stage he was able to talk about his training and personal experiences, this was valuable in gaining a full time paid employed position.

David said, “The course and support provided by Access Ability and Lancashire Adult Learning has opened my eyes even more so to mental health as well as physical health, plus also provided me with the skills, tools and resources for my new role. I never thought such a short courses would be so valuable to potential employers. It also provided me with the confidence to put what I learnt into practice as well as my personal experiences in my new role. At the time, I didn’t have the finances to fund the training myself so this was a massive help, thank you”
