Deaf Awareness and BSL Day (6hrs) The course is delivered by a profoundly deaf tutor supported by a BSL interpreter. This training provides an insight into to real life situations faced by deaf people and looks at solutions to improve access and communication. The day is fun, informative and interactive and provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn together, develop new life skills and gain an insight into the use of British Sign Language (BSL). People will be issued with a certificate of attendance.

Course content:

  • Different types of deafness
  • Hearing Aid advantages and limitations
  • How to get a deaf persons attention
  • Alerting devices for deaf people
  • Communication do’s and don’ts
  • Everyday barriers
  • Lip reading activities
  • Gesture activities
  • BSL structure
  • Finger spelling
  • Introduction the BSL way
  • Sign names
  • Basic conversation using BSL

 

BSL Foundation Workshops
(2hrs x 5 weeks or 2 days x 5 hours)

The course is delivered by a profoundly deaf tutor supported by a BSL interpreter. This training will provide you with an introductory into the use of British Sign Language (BSL) enabling you to acquire signing skills. The course covers a range of different everyday topics which will promote communication with deaf people. The day is fun, informative and interactive and provides an excellent opportunity for you to learn in a group, develop new life skills and gain skills to be able to use British Sign Language (BSL). On completion a certificate of attendance will be issued.
